- have respiratory deficits requiring ventilator use or demonstrate reduced vital capacity (less than 80%)
- Have a caregiver or family member who is trained and willing to operate the ventilator during study visits
- NOT be completely dependent on the support of a diaphragmatic pacer (24 hours per day)
- NOT have history of head injury or stroke
- NOT have history of seizures or epilepsy
- NOT be taking medications that lower seizure threshold
- NOT have metal in the skull including plates, shrapnel, cochlear implants or aneurysm clips
