This feasibility study is enrolling 5 participants with paralysis, e.g. due to cervical spinal cord injury, to test the safety and efficacy of a brain-computer interface (BCI). A BCI is a technique using a computer and connected electrodes on the brain to record brain activity and also to control an external device. If included, participants will undergo surgery to implant the INTENT Neural Interface System, including up to eight microelectrode arrays in areas of the brain involved in movement, sensation, and information processing. The implanted system will record neural activity to allow participants to control virtual or real assistive devices; the system will also provide sensory feedback through electrical stimulation of the brain to help users perceive touch or other environmental information. Final testing of safety and efficacy will be performed after 1 year.
